Back to the grind!

After weeks of absolute freedom, it's quite an adjustment to get back to work. Amber went to her Dad's house and started her week about again. While some parents were aplauding the start of the school term, I look at it with sadness... and if I had a genie, Amber and I would be together all the time, homeschooling...

This week I signed off the Gold Coast edition of Kids on the Coast magazine. (For those of you who don't know, I am editor of that parenting magazine - link above). I also met with my co-workers at University and prepared lesson plans for the upcoming journalism and PR courses.

Last weekend I did a book signing at Chermside at Angus and Robertson. It was my most fun book signing yet with some wonderfully funny 'sprooking' and varied questions and interest from passers by. Perhaps the most memorable contact was with nine year old Ethan and his mum. Ethan is home schooled and exudes curiosity. We chatted for at least half an hour and shared some of our experiences. I too was home schooled (way back in the dark ages) and we felt an affinity with each other.

Then today it was my best friend's birthday. We signed up to learn to row together. Now, that doesnt mean dinghies... it means those hopelessly tippy matchsticks with oars. I was itching to see if I could stay upright, but the first in the series of eight lessons revolved around a video and a rowing machine... keep posted to see if I get wet next week!

It was hard to
